Who it's for
Gamers with a 1080p monitor who want new games at high settings, not medium. Fortnite, Valorant, CS2 and Apex run at high frame rates for 144Hz and 180Hz monitors. With XeSS upscaling it also handles 1440p at medium settings.
Why these parts
Graphics: Intel Arc B580 (12GB). This is where the money goes. 12GB of video memory matters in 2026: new games already push 8GB cards to lower texture settings. Turn on Resizable BAR in the BIOS. Arc cards lose a lot of performance without it.
CPU: Ryzen 5 5600. Six cores with a cooler in the box. Fast enough that it won't hold back the B580.
Motherboard: B550 Micro-ATX. Supports Resizable BAR and fast NVMe drives, and has four memory slots.
Memory: 16GB DDR4-3200. Two sticks for dual-channel speed. Two slots stay free, so going to 32GB later is a drop-in upgrade.
Storage: 1TB NVMe SSD. Fast loading and room for several big games.
Power supply: 650W. The build draws about 320W, so there's room for a bigger graphics card later.
Case and fans: Q300L plus a Thermalright 3-pack. The case comes with one rear fan. Put two of the new fans in the front as intake.
Why not a newer AM5 build?
Memory prices. In 2026, 16GB of DDR5 costs more than twice as much as 16GB of DDR4. A Ryzen 7000 or 9000 build has to use DDR5, and at $1,000 that would push you down to a weaker graphics card. In games, the graphics card makes the bigger difference. AM4 is an older platform, but the Ryzen 5 5600 is still plenty for this card.
If you have more to spend, the mid-range build moves to AM5 and an RTX 5070.
Tweaks
- A bit more to spend: an RX 9060 XT 16GB is faster and has more video memory. The 650W power supply covers it.
- Want 1440p: the $1500 build keeps this platform and moves up to an RX 9070.
- Streaming or lots of browser tabs: add a second 16GB kit for 32GB.
- Need to spend less: the budget build uses the Arc B570 and keeps everything else the same.
